Known for its "The Human Light" philosophy, Artemide is an Italian company specializing in the production of indoor and outdoor designer lighting for both residential and professional use. Founded in 1960 by Ernesto Gismondi, an aeronautical engineer with a passion for design, and architect Sergio Mazza, the company launched several products within its first decade that quickly became true icons. These include the Eclisse table lamp, designed in 1967 by Vico Magistretti, a symbol of the company's international success, as well as Tolomeo (1989, by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina) and Pipe (2004, by Herzog & De Meuron), all of which won the Compasso d'Oro.
