Eclisse, designed by Vico Magistretti in 1965, won the Compasso d’Oro in 1967 and went on to represent Italian design around the world. Eclisse is an avant-garde balance between form and function, design and utility. The idea rests on its ability to adjust the intensity of the light through a rotating inner shade that "eclipses" the light source. With a fixed outer shell and a movable inner one, the lamp can give either direct or diffused light.
A table lamp that can also be wall-mounted. Painted metal body available in white, red, orange or yellow, and in a PVD version made with an innovative, sustainable vacuum metal deposition process (“sputtering”), available in black, brass, copper or mirror.
In environmental terms this new finish is one of the cleanest coating technologies there is: it uses only metals that are not harmful to health and completely eliminates all emissions, in particular the sulphuric acid and cyanide emissions into the atmosphere normally produced by electroplating.
The following stage, a clear protective lacquer applied to give the finish a long aesthetic life, uses a solid lacquer with at most 5% solvents (against a traditional 75%). The waste the process generates is extremely limited.
Eclisse is part of the permanent collection of the most important design museums, among them MoMA in New York and the Triennale Design Museum in Milan.
