Description

The Serie della Natura grew out of the search for a way to turn an image into a symbol through a programmed reduction that works towards eliminating the superfluous in favour of meaning, with art multiples in view. Between 1961 and 1976 Mari drew 17 symbols, produced as screenprints on texilina. Mari began working on the subjects that make up this series as early as 1957: that year he conceived the first version of the Gioco Delle Favole, which Danese would put into production in 1965. Now almost a symbol of Danese’s output, this series is one of the few examples of editions that achieve the aim of creating ‘artistic’ images for the home founded on the idea of seriality. No originals of these works exist, because the final image is arrived at only through the technical processes of reproduction (screenprinting). Through the choice of these ‘archetypal’ subjects, and through the form and technique of their representation, Mari seems to be after a kind of ‘super-icon’: the Apple is not an apple but The Apple.
