“I was inspired by the house I lived in as a child. It was a wooden house, like a hut, and my brothers and I enjoyed climbing onto the roof to explore the surroundings. Having a bed that looks like the perfect example of a house blurs the notions of inside and outside and fosters a curiosity to explore the surrounding environment.”
Nathan Yong graduated from Temasek Polytechnic with a degree in Industrial Design in 1991. He then began his career not as a designer but as a purchasing manager and technician at various companies in Singapore. These positions allowed him to travel to various countries and learn about diverse production techniques. His work is inspired by the visual memories of everyday life. In his designs, he eliminates superfluous details, capturing the poetry through rigorous research, creating instantly recognizable products with a fresh and functional style.
Currently based in Singapore, Nathan Yong runs a multidisciplinary design and consultancy studio.
