After creating a myriad of tableware items for valerie_objects, Baas designed a collection of outdoor chairs and a table. "The starting point is similar to that of every object I create: to create a fully functional piece of design that looks hand-drawn," says Baas. Thus, Baas redefined typical outdoor furniture made of metal frames and wooden slats, sketching the slats with a pencil on paper and then meticulously recreating them in real life. The result is very Maarten Baas: a design that looks like it was drawn by a child.
